Design Challenge - A Pizza Ordering App

I was tasked to design two screens for a pizza ordering app based on two existing example screens. My designs were made to be cosistent with the existing designs and be fun and engaging to use.

Wireframes and designs were created in Figma.

BACKGROUND

I was presented with 2 finished screens, and one wireframe. My task was to design the missing screen (the pizza building/ordering screen) and turn the provided wireframe into a final design. The user should be able to pick a size for their pizza, the quantity, and the toppings they want on it.

I started by speaking with friends and peers about their desired experience with food ordering apps, and began looking at popular pizza ordering websites and apps, taking notice as to what parts of the experience were enjoyable, what kind of information was provided to the customer, and the level of customizability they allowed. Based on my research I created 3 wireframes for the pizza ordering page.

WIREFRAMES

I made three different wireframes, trying out different ideas for topping selection and visual distribution. I wanted to test out different ways to offer customizability: drop down menus, option buttons, and counter buttons. In general, I found users generally did not find drop down menus fun to use, so I settled on a design which did not incorporate them. I also found the carousel style size selection much more fun and unique than the normal button options.

Based on my interviews, I’ve found that users prefer platforms which allow high levels of customizability. I really enjoyed the left side/whole/right side option some pizza ordering platforms offered, and wanted to incorporate that into my design as well.

FINAL DESIGNS

I made the final design for the pizza ordering screen, being careful to mimic the design of the existing screens, including font, color scheme, and button design. I also created the check out final design based on the provided wireframe.
